For the love of design

Holy Cow! Creative

When you’re caught up in the day-to-day, you often lose sight of why you do what you do and why you got into it in the first place. The incessant emails and your to-do list often take priority and before you know it, another week has passed and your to-do list seems even longer.

With the launch of our brand spanking new website, it was a perfect time for us to stop and reflect on our core values, our beliefs and most importantly, why Holy Cow! was created in 1995 – that’s right, we’re a 90’s kid!

We focused on what is at the core of Holy Cow! and what has been our driving force for the last 19 years and what still drives us today:

Holy Cow! was built on the singular desire to create beautiful design WITH people who love design – FOR people who love design.

This is relevant now more than ever.

Every day, we are exposed to a myriad of stimuli – websites, newsfeeds, advertisements, eDMs, apps, videos – we’re in an age of information overload. Out of everything we see in a day, rarely does something impress us or catch our eye or ‘cut through the clutter’.

Design seems to be totally disregarded in the majority of elements that we see on a daily basis. This has been aided and abetted by websites such as 99designs and fiverr, which offer branding and design for a minimal cost and a minimal turnaround which comes with minimal quality and zero strategy.

The art of true graphic design is diminishing as people increasingly focus on the bottom line. There seems to be a total lack of appreciation for the craft, with many taking the approach that if you can use Illustrator or InDesign, you’re automatically a graphic designer.

This is just so wrong, on so many levels.

Without knowing a brand inside out and without considering the overarching aims of a specific design element, it’s impossible to create a design that will be effective in achieving what it sets out to achieve.

Holy Cow! was created before computers became synonymous with graphic design – hours of thinking would go into each design throughout the process and this is something that we have maintained throughout the gradual transition to all things Adobe – it’s in our nature and it’s in our blood.

To create the most effective design for any purpose, we get to know the brand, the aims and the end purpose. We go through a specific creative process to deliver a final product that meets all expectations, rather than just slapping out a design with out a clear strategy or aim.

For us, design is a two way street – we love design, and we love creating it for people who love it too.
